Company Overview:
Our client, an ASX-listed metals company, is developing a new open-pit metals operation in Africa. To lead the technical department, we are seeking a Technical Services Manager to join the leadership team and steer success for one of Africa’s new development projects.
Position Overview:
As the Technical Services Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise in mine planning and development for the company’s flagship open-pit project. This role requires an experienced open-pit technical leader with a proven track record in mine planning.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive mine plans, encompassing short-term and long-term objectives, to optimise resource extraction and maximise operational efficiency.

  • Oversee geological modelling, resource estimation, and mine design activities to support accurate decision-making and project advancement.

  • Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and other stakeholders to conduct thorough feasibility studies, risk assessments, and scenario analyses for project evaluation and planning purposes.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mine planning processes, methodologies, and technologies, ensuring alignment with industry trends and emerging innovations.

  • Manage the compilation and submission of technical reports, regulatory documents, and compliance requirements to relevant authorities and governing bodies.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and excellence within the technical services department.

  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and vendors to procure specialised services, equipment, and resources as needed to support project objectives.

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and resource allocations, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and financial targets.

  • Foster strong relationships with local communities, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders to promote transparency, collaboration, and sustainable development practices.

  • Uphold a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental stewardship, promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance throughout all phases of project execution.


  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering.

  • Proven experience in mine planning, development, and operations within the mining industry.

  • Greenfields project development experience.

  • Strong proficiency in mine planning software and modelling tools (e.g., Surpac, MineSight, Deswik, etc.).

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to mine planning and development.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and timelines while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Prior experience working in the African mining sector or other relevant international jurisdictions preferred.
