About the Company
Our client, a Brisbane-based specialist mining consultancy delivering technical advisory services across the resources sector, is seeking a Principal Mining Engineer to lead within its growing underground metals team. The business works on technically challenging projects for a diverse client base operating in complex hard rock environments, and is looking for an experienced engineer who can take ownership of client projects from day one.

Position Overview
The Principal Mining Engineer will lead underground metals mine planning engagements, setting the technical direction on design, scheduling and operational planning while delivering hands-on work of their own. Based in Brisbane within a tight-knit team of senior and principal engineers, the role involves occasional domestic and international travel to mine sites and client offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead underground mine design, life-of-mine scheduling and backfill system planning engagements for client projects.
  • Set the technical direction and quality standard for deliverables, ensuring reports and recommendations are ones clients can act on.
  • Lead and contribute to multi-discipline studies from scoping and feasibility through to execution.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for clients, building relationships that drive repeat work and new business.
  • Mentor senior engineers and review their work.
  • Undertake site visits and client engagement as project needs require.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years’ experience in the underground metals sector, spanning both planning and operational roles.
  • Demonstrated leadership of mine design, production scheduling and backfill planning work, including at study level.
  • Advanced proficiency in mine planning software, particularly Deswik.
  • Proven ability to run engagements autonomously and manage multiple deliverables to deadline.
  • Strong written and technical communication skills, with credibility in front of clients.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and office locations on occasion.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
The successful candidate will be offered diverse, technically challenging project work across the global metals sector, a senior team that will push your thinking, and a competitive remuneration package reflective of level and experience. Brisbane-based; travel is project-driven, not a lifestyle.
