About the Operation
Our client, a growing Tasmanian metals producer, is seeking a Maintenance & Engineering Manager to lead all aspects of site asset maintenance and engineering, covering fixed and mobile plant, mechanical and electrical across surface and underground. The site currently operates as an open-pit truck-and-shovel operation and is preparing for a transition to underground mining in 2026.
  
Position Overview
The Maintenance & Engineering Manager will lead all site maintenance and engineering functions, covering mechanical and electrical systems across fixed and mobile plant and surface/underground assets. The role is responsible for driving asset reliability, improving maintenance practices and overseeing the transition from a contractor-based maintenance model to a fully integrated owner-operator function. The position will play a critical role in bolstering maintenance systems, infrastructure and reliability frameworks for the upcoming underground transition.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the site’s maintenance and engineering teams across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, mobile, fixed plant and infrastructure).
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve plant and equipment reliability, availability and performance.
  • Oversee the transition from contractor maintenance to owner-operator model, including workforce planning, systems setup and process development.
  • Establish and embed engineering standards and maintenance systems to support the upcoming underground mine development.
  • Provide technical and leadership oversight of crushing and materials handling systems, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
  • Manage maintenance planning, scheduling, budgeting and cost control to meet production and financial objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory maintenance requirements and company safety standards.
  • Lead asset integrity, defect elimination and continuous improvement initiatives across all maintenance areas.
  • Collaborate with other site and corporate leaders to support the transition and long-term site growth strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or relevant Trade Qualification with extensive maintenance leadership experience in the mining industry.
  • Strong background in crushing, materials handling and fixed plant reliability improvement.
  • Proven track record in maintenance management within open-pit and/or underground operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in multi-disciplinary maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Sound understanding of Australian mining safety legislation and maintenance compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication, planning and leadership skills with a commitment to developing high-performing teams.
  • Full Australian working rights. 
Tasmania Mine Site location with Roster Options, FIFO 9/5 ex-Melbourne or 18/10 ex-WA, NSW, SA or QLD. 5/2 Residential (Tasmania-based).
